850 Power Supply Review

Seasonic X Series: X 850 Power Supply ReviewSeasonic is a long time favorite of HardOCP editors as you will find a Seasonic PSU in many builds we have done over the years. Today Seasonic cheap oakley sunglasses pushes its X Series forward just a bit more building its first gold efficiency rated fully modular enthusiast power supply. But will it blend Overview

The first thing we are going to look at with the Seasonic X 850 is its packaging, accessories, and documentation. While normally none of these items is a make or break item for a power supply the packaging quite often contains a lot of information about the product we are purchasing. The inclusion of an owner manual that provides actual information about our product is also of great help. Accessories are almost unnecessary with a power supply as the unit is self contained, unless it is modular, but there are cases where a manufacturer can include useful accessories to make installation, routing, and use more efficient.

The packaging of the Seasonic X 850 is very similar to what we have seen from other members of the X Series including the most recent X 1250. As with previous units, the packaging of the X 850 is accented in Gold for the advertised level of 80 Plus certification. When we check the 80 Plus website, we find that ECOS/ECOVA has certified the original X 850 for 80 Plus Gold but not this revision. According to Seasonic, because the product retains the same EAN code (might be more familiar to users as a UPC code even though it is technically a modification of that) there was no resubmission. As such, for our 80 Plus verification later will cheap oakley sunglasses be using the 80 Plus report for the original X 850. Moving on, the front of the package is once more barren for our purposes. On the rear of the packaging, we find a lot of advertising that we have seen before from other X Series units. Included in this advertising we find the fan controller information, some benefits of the Sanyo Denki fan that is used, some design points, capacitor selection, and the fact that the unit is backed by a 7 year warranty. After looking at the rest of the packaging, we find the power label (reproduced below) and the connector count (reproduced cheap oakley sunglasses below).

The power information for the Seasonic X 850 is like what we have seen since the X Series units first debuted. Once more, Seasonic has a unit with a 12v capacity that is 99% (70A) of the unit total output if necessary. When we look at the minor rails, we see that these are capped at 125W (which is a reduction of 25W compared to the last 850W Seasonic branded unit we saw) and cheap oakley sunglasses each rail is individually capable of 25A. Moving on, we see that the X 850 has 6 modified 8 pin PCI Express connectors, 5 Molex connectors, and 10 SATA connectors. This arrangement is certainly enough for the vast majority of users but we have seen some other recent 850W units sporting more peripheral connectors (the Corsair HX850 Gold for instance).

Once we open the X 850, we find the usual assortment of items that come with a Seasonic power supply including the power supply in a bag, mounting screws with Seasonic case badge, modular cables in a bag, the power cord, the user manual, and warranty card. The user manual that comes with the X 850 covers the X 650, the X 750, the X 850, the X 1050, and the X 1250. It is 62 pages long in eight languages. Included in the manual is the power table for all of the X Series units listed on the outside of the manual, installation instructions, some troubleshooting instructions, and the warranty information. All in all, not a lot different from what we saw included with the X 1250, unsurprisingly. Let move on now to the unit itself.
