26 bags of PDS rice seized

Twenty six bags of rice meant for public distribution through ration shop was seized along with the van and two persons were arrested in this connection here on Sunday.

Police said that the private van, which was spotted loading ri oakley ce at a cooperative store on Srinivasa Road, TVS oakley Nagar was stopped by a patrol police. While, they were questioning the driver and another person, two others escaped from the spot apprehending trouble. oakley

The names of the arrested persons were given as G. Manickavasagam (25) son of S. Ganesan of Kambar Street Jeeva Nagar Jaihindpuram and A. Muthuselvam (25) son of P. Alaguraj of Jeeva Nagar. A special team has been formed to oakley nab the accused.

Meanwhile, a search on the van led to seizure of 26 bags of rice. A two wheeler, suspected to have been used by the accomplices in the offence were also seized. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the accused had planned to sell the ration rice in private market for a hefty price.

Inspector General and Commissioner of Police P. Kannappan said in a press statement that police would not spare rice smugglers and they would be punished as per the laws. He appreciated the SS Colony Police Inspector (law and order) Chandrasekaran, head constable Chandrasekar and armed reserve policeman Nagasundaram.

The Subramaniapuram police registered a case under EC Act of 1955 and IPC Sections 353 and 506 (1). The duo, who was produced before a judicial magistrate, was remanded in custody.
